Code execution is enabled by default in standard Zylon 1.58 deployments. If your operator disables it in the Workspace, you can still chat and use other available tools, but the assistant cannot run code or complete Skill steps that require code execution. If it is unavailable, ask your IT administrator to check the Code Execution configuration.
With Code execution, Zylon can write and run code in a private, isolated environment (a sandbox) to work with your files. Instead of estimating an answer, Zylon computes it, checks the result, and hands you the files it produced.

What you get

  • Exact calculations on your data, instead of approximations.
  • New files you can preview and download: spreadsheets, charts, reports, and converted documents.
  • Multi-step work: Zylon can run code, look at the result, fix mistakes, and try again until it gets it right.

When to use it

  • “Analyze this spreadsheet and tell me which region grew the most.”
  • “Plot monthly revenue from this CSV as a line chart.”
  • “Merge these two Excel files and remove duplicate customers.”
  • “Convert this JSON export into a clean table I can open in Excel.”
  • “Calculate the loan payment schedule for these terms and give it to me as a spreadsheet.”
For simple questions, conversation, or writing, Zylon answers directly without running code. If you want Zylon to compute or verify something, ask explicitly (for example, “run code to check this”).

How it works

  1. Attach your files to the chat, or reference documents in your project.
  2. Ask what you need. Zylon writes the code, runs it in the sandbox, and reads the results.
  3. Get your files. When Zylon creates a file, it appears in the chat and is saved to your project, so you can preview, download, or reuse it later.
Each chat has its own sandbox:
  • Files you upload and files Zylon creates stay available for the whole chat, so you can keep asking follow-up questions (“now group it by quarter”).
  • Other chats, and other users, can’t see the files in your chat’s sandbox.

Supported files

Zylon can work with most common formats, including:
  • Spreadsheets and data: CSV, Excel (.xlsx, .xls), JSON, XML
  • Documents: PDF, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), text and Markdown
  • Images: PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP
  • Archives: ZIP, 7z, RAR

Notes & best practices

  • Name the columns or fields you care about. Zylon only knows the data structure after looking at the file.
  • Say what output you want: “a bar chart as PNG”, “an Excel file with one sheet per region”, “a short summary table”.
  • Iterate in the same chat. Your files are still there, so small follow-ups are fast.
  • The sandbox has no internet access. If you need information from the web, combine it with Web search.
  • Downloads depend on your organization’s settings. If you can preview a file but not download it, ask your administrator.
